Fiscal 2013 Emission Volume of PRTR Designated Chemical SubstancesThrough the monitoring, reduction and proper management of hazardous chemical substances,we strive to minimize their emissions to the environment.Reduction of Hazardous Chemical SubstancesThe PRTR (Pollutant Release and Transfer Register) is the legal systemobliging business operators who handle potentially hazardouschemical substances to identify, collate and disclose information onsuch substances, including data on where the substances are generatedand emitted and whether the substances are transportedoff premises mixed with waste.The Pollutant Release and Transfer Law (PRTR Law) for thePromotion of Chemical Management, which is the basis of theabove system, requires such business operators to record theamount of such substances they handle, emit and transport. InApril 2001, 354 substances were listed as Class I DesignatedChemical Substances requiring surveys and reports to businessoperators. A revision of the law enacted in October 2009 furtherextended the scope of listed substances to 462, and established100 Class II Designated Chemical Substances. Business operatorshandling or manufacturing designated chemical substances mustmonitor the amount of such substances that are emitted into theenvironment as well as the amount transported off premises inwaste or sewage water for disposal.
