Main Exhibits

The highlights of Akebono's booth this year include the NR22 Brake Caliper for the Nurburgring 24 Hour Endurance Race. The NR22 combines "function" and "design" for the full 24 hours of an extremely demanding race environment and has made the remarkable achievement of winning the world's three most prestigious design awards.

In addition, as initiatives to reduce environmental impacts, Akebono will display brake pads that reduce CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process by 50% by eliminating certain processes, particularly those at high temperature. The booth will also feature brake pads that meet Euro 7 requirements by striving to develop technologies that reduce the volume of brake dust generated from friction materials while extending the product life of brake pads.

"NR22 Brake Caliper" for Endurance Racing

Akebono supplies brakes to the entrants of the "Nurburgring 24 Hour Endurance Race", which is one of the world's toughest endurance races for touring cars from 2006. These calipers have been designed to achieve outstanding reliability and consistent performance in an extremely demanding environment for the full 24 hours. In addition, this product was recognized with the "triple crown" of the world's three most prestigious design awards: The Red Dot Award 2023 and iF DESIGN AWARD 2023 of Germany, along with the International Design Excellence Awards 2022 of U.S.

Brake pads that reduce CO2 Emissions by 50% (Reference Exhibit)

Reduction of CO2 emission and the production time has been achieved by changing some of the raw materials and eliminating some kind of process, particularly high temperature process in the brake pad manufacturing. This product also pursues solutions to various issues, including environmental aspects such as reduction of material dust and odor during processing, performance aspects such as securing braking power, and cost aspects that lead to manufacturing cost reductions such as ease of manufacture and shorter processing time.

Brake Pads that Correspond to Euro 7 (Reference Exhibit)

In Europe, the principle has been expressed to regulate not only exhaust gas but also brake dust under Euro7: a new environmental regulation. In response, Akebono is striving to develop technologies that reduce the volume of brake dust generated from friction materials while extending the product life of brake pads. It is also conducting research to create methods to analyze and evaluate brake dust.

Electromechanical Brake Caliper (Reference Exhibit)

A service brake is the system that is designed to slow down the vehicle and bring it to a stop. This electromechanical brake operates the service brake by using the electric power and controlling its brake piston mechanically. We have developed this product in order to meet the needs of electric and autonomous vehicles. Though the electromechanical brake has not been adopted by vehicle manufacturers yet, Akebono aims at early commercialization of this product by using our wealth of experience in research and development of this type of brakes.

"AWP (Akebono W-Piston) Brake Caliper" with Integrated Electric Parking Brake (Reference Exhibit)

This brake consists of a brand-new structure light-weighted brake caliper with high rigidity and a motor gear unit. The mounting position of the motor gear unit is specially designed to have the optimal weight balance and superior vibration resistance. This product has the same characteristics of the AWP brake caliper with sophisticated appearance which allow us to unify the design of a front brake and a rear brake.

4 Pot Brake Caliper with integrated Electric Parking Brake

This opposed piston type brake caliper, which reliability was proven by its use in high-performance cars, is equipped with the electric parking brake system. It is small in size and light in weight as we use aluminum as the main material for the brake body. We aim to make it the flagship product of Akebono’s electric parking brake for high performance cars.

Floating Type Disc Brake Caliper with Integrated Electric Parking Brake for Small-to-Mid Sized Trucks

Regular electric parking brake models have a structure where one motor’s output is transmitted to one piston, while our product is based on 2-piston brake systems with a unique structure where one motor’s output can be transmitted to two pistons via two spindle mechanisms. Compared to the same category of existing volume-produced products from other manufacturers, this new electric parking brake generates a clamping force which is more than doubled.

10 Pot Disc Brake Caliper for High Performance Car

The 10 Pot Brake Caliper has five pistons on each side for a total of ten and is suited for large-sized high performance cars. Large-sized high performance cars are subject to heavy braking-energy loads so large size brake pads are used. To realize stable braking, opposed piston type with 10-pot brake caliper has been adopted.

New Structure "AWP (Akebono W-Piston) Brake Caliper"

This caliper was developed to meet the needs of vehicle electrification and environmental sustainability by drastic revision of the structure of existing AD-type disc brakes. This is made of aluminum, achieving a weight reduction of 20% compared to the standard OEM caliper, contributing to improved fuel efficiency, and is a revolutionary product that is easy to install in vehicles without replacement of any other parts and visually very appealing. Also, the new structure makes the brake response equivalent to that of opposed type disc brakes.

6 Pot Brake Caliper for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC)

Akebono supplies brakes to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) centered on "Le Mans 24 Hours Race" from 2013. These calipers have been designed to achieve outstanding reliability and consistent performance in an extremely demanding environment for the full 24 hours. As a brake expert, Akebono will continue to offer advanced technologies.
