Founded in 1929, Akebono has contributed to society for more than 80 years as a dedicated brake manufacturer by providing both safety and peace of mind.
Mainly through its automotive OEM disc brake pad business, for which it has a high market share worldwide, and other products such as disc brakes and drum brakes, Akebono has grown its automotive brake business globally across Japan, North America, Europe and Asia. In addition, Akebono has expanded beyond its core automotive brake business into other areas, supplying brakes for motorcycles, forklifts, wind turbines and other industrial machinery. Akebono also provides brakes for rolling stock, including brake systems for
Shinkansen, for which it has a market share of approximately 50%. Since 2007, as an Official Supplier, Akebono has supplied state-of-the-art brake systems to the prestigious Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team in Formula 1, the highest class of auto racing. Following its mission of "Friction and Vibration, their Control and Analysis," Akebono is mobilizing its independently acquired analysis and simulation technologies, taking on the challenge of achieving breakthroughs in brake mechanism analysis and control.
