18 AKEBONO REPORT 2012 Akebono Brake Industry Co. Ltd.Japan-France ExchangesAkebono is participating in exchange activities between Japanand France at the private level. At the “StrategicAttractiveness Council” held by the French government inParis in 2011 we participated as the only Japanese companyon the council and exchanged opinions with French officialson investment in France. Also in June 2011 Akebono cosponsoreda traditional Japanese Kamigata-Mai dance performancein France introducing an ancient Japanese art formrarely seen even in Japan.In these and similar ways we are facilitating internationalexchanges in cultural and business areas.Welcoming Visitors to Plant ToursAkebono is welcoming visitors from local schools as well aslocal economic associations to its plant tours. On December20 2011 Sanyo Manufacturing was host to representativesof the Kochi Industrial Association as well as a number of tourparticipants organized by the Kochi Industrial PromotionCenter. A total of 39 people visited the company’s Kibi DaiichiPlant enjoying a presentation on the operation of the manufacturinglines. Therewere also livelydialogues onMonozukuri value-added productmanufacturingbetween Akebonostaff and tourparticipants.Received a Letter of Appreciation from Fukushima Prefectural PoliceOn December 20 2011 Akebono received a letter of appreciationfrom Fukushima Prefectural Police for its cooperationin the training of motorcycle policemen.In recent years the dangers that motorcycle policemenface in their day to day traffic enforcement duties have grownwith the increase in the number of automobiles and highperformance high-speed motorcycles on the road. It is thereforeessential that they learn enhanced driving techniques. Sincespring 2010 Akebono has been offering its Proving Grounds which are usually used as its test course for use in the trainingof motorcycle policemen as a part of its continuous social contributionactivities in line with its Corporate Mission.* The letterof appreciation acknowledged the Company’s initiatives andcontributions as well as its strong commitment to road safety.*Please see page 1 for akebono’s Corporate Mission.Cleanup and Planting Activities in RegionOn June 11 2011 we conducted a cleanup at Ai-City and thesurrounding area. 2011 marked the 19th time we engaged inthis activity and we saw a record number of participants. Infact 134 volunteers including Akebono associates fromeach Headquarters department labor union representatives associates from Akebono 123 Co. Ltd. and children fromlocal sports club associations participated. Also the areacovered by the cleanup was broadened extending to gettingrid of the weeds around Hanyu station.As for planting activities we planted 200 Satsuki (rhododendronindicum)trees on the Ai-Citypremises. Akebonoplans to continuewith these cleanupand planting activitiesat its nationwidelocations.Initiatives of Akebono 123 Co. Ltd.Akebono 123 Co. Ltd. a subsidiary of Akebono that providesemployment for people with disabilities participated in anexhibition at the “Shogai-sya (people with disabilities) JobFair 2011 in Saitama” on November 22 and 23 2011 publicallyintroducing its initiatives. In 2011 an associate ofAkebono 123 received a prize for excellence from theSaitama Employment Development Association.On January 17 2012 Akebono 123was visited by Ms.Yoshiko Ando directorof the Saitama LaborBureau and Mr. ToshioPresentation on model manufacturing line“Strategic Attractiveness Council” at Paris FranceThe letter of appreciation was presentedby Fukushima Prefectural PoliceCleaning up the area around Ai-City and Hanyu stationAkebono 123’s exhibition booth at the job fairInitiatives at Locations in Japan and OverseasWith Local Communities
