Ltd. 23■ Global Leadership ForumWith global leaders who have achieved success at Akebono’soverseas locations as participants a training session calledthe Global Leadership Forum was held in November 2011 forthree days to provide a venue for exchanges on currentissues and the proposal of solutions under the theme “OneGoal One Team One akebono.”Divided into four groups 18 associates from around theworld made presentations on issues of concern and solutionsand engaged in lively discussions. On the final day of theforum presentations on issues and solutions were made toboard members by participants confirming each groups’ongoing endeavors to find solutions and dedication to theaim of becoming a truly global company. Another forum washeld in August 2012.■ Overseas Training Plan for Younger AssociatesThe Overseas Training Plan launched in 2001 aims to helpyounger associates understand diverse cultures by stationingthem overseas in their early years with Akebono. Thecumulative number of participants in the plan stands at over200. From 2011 we reformed the plan to incorporate morecontent related to actual operations. In recent years thenumber of new recruits with superior foreign-language skillsis increasing along with growing globalization. The reformedplan aims to provide such recruits with opportunities to usetheir linguistic skills in actual business on the premise thatthey have mastered a foreign language in Japan. From 2012 we are accelerating our efforts to improve the plan and aimto incorporate languages other than English into the plan.■ The Program to Be Implemented at the akebono Training CenterAiming to nurture human resources who will succeed on theglobal stage we intend to establish the akebono TrainingCenter which is to be utilized as a place for exchange amongassociates from worldwide group members to spread theknowledge obtained from global operations as well as toeventually create new values. We launched the TrainingCenter Planning Office in June 2012 accelerating the preparationof programs to be implemented.Putting our heads together we will create new educationsystems that go beyond the standard bounds of any existingtraining program with the goal of helping every single one ofour associates realize their full potential through the executionby their duties (please see page 25 for outline of thefacility of the akebono Training Center).Diversity-Related Initiatives (Japan)We are aiming to further vitalize Akebono by respecting thevalue systems of individual associates and paying duerespect to their diversity. Specifically we expect that ourrespect for the work styles and lifestyles that are best suitedfor individual associates will nurture creativity in each associates’area of business. This will eventually contribute tothe energization of the organization.Basic Human Resources PolicyAkebono believes that the most important factor that guidesa company to success is human talent (our associates).Guided by that belief we set forth our basic humanresource policy that “each associate must be given theopportunity to exert their abilities and be continuously supportedto share their success with the company.” We arestriving to build our long-term global personnel policy as wellas to facilitate associates’ ability to establish their individualityand foster mutual respect and trust.Moreover we are working on human rights education andenlightenment with high regard for human rights to achievean organization with abundant diversity and creativity.Human Resource Development and Human Resource SystemRespecting human rights and the diverse value systemsof individual associates as well as their rights to privacy Akebono is developing training programs and humanresource systems for Groupwide application with the goal ofplacing the right person in the right position and entrustingthem with handling business in the right region regardlessof their nationality. Previously each of our global operationshad been implementing a different educational program andhuman resource systems had differed by region. The abovementionedefforts are aimed at imparting a greater ability tofunction in cross-cultural environments to Japanese associateswho previously had less opportunity to work togetherwith colleagues of different nationalities cultures and languages.Focusing on augmenting communication skills languageskills and the ability to deal with diverse cultures weare enhancing human resource nurturing programs.Global Educational Program■ Introduction of the Akebono Standard PackageAs an educational package used throughout the Group ineducational programs for newly recruited associates we aredeveloping Akebono Standard Package. To ensure the provisionof uniform educational material we issued theakebono Starter Book which sums up information onAkebono’s founding and history business features byregion and Akebono’s corporate culture and philosophy including the Akebono Production System (APS) and corporatebrand management. By doing so we aim to unify thebasic knowledge and the mindset that all Akebono associatesneed to share. On the otherhand the educational programs bestsuited to specific countries and locationscan be established by addingoriginal programs tailored to theunique characteristics of eachregion.
