In fiscal 2011 one of our ex-associates registered inthe plan was welcomed back into Akebono and began workingas an associate.Overseas Labor ManagementWe recognize the stable labor-management relationship inoverseas locations as an essential management issue. Weare striving to build cooperative relationships with laborunions through mutual consultations under the basic policyof “harmonious labor relations.”In 2010 we held individual interviews with associates ofAkebono Brake (Thailand) and Akebono Corporation inGuangzhou and in Suzhou in China to hear their comments requests and opinions. Through these interviews we foundthat the personnel system being applied which was basedon the system in Japan was not necessarily suited to thevalues of local associates working at these locations andthat this system could not win their understanding. In order to fully realize Akebono’s manufacture potentialin China we revised the human resource system implementedat these locations in 2012 after close study revealed thatthe system had two portions: a portion that representsAkebono’s philosophy and could not be changed and aportion that should be changed pursuant to the local laborpractices and value systems.Similarly we began discussing revisions to the humanresource system in Thailand. Looking ahead we supportlabor management at overseas locations with high regard forand understanding of the national character and labor practicesin each country. Please see page 62 for the official name of each overseas location’98 ’00 ’03 ’04 ’05 ’06 ’07 ’08 ’09 ’10 ’111 2 274 3 411 121510National Origins of InternsUnited States United Kingdom Italy India Greece Sweden Austria Spain Thailand Slovakia Germany Turkey France Finland Portugal Mexico03691512(Number of interns)(Year)Number of Interns Accepted
