This was mainly attributable to a fall in the load-to-truckratio in the wake of the production decrease and electricpower shortage following the Great East Japan Earthquake. On the other hand we introduced the “IT roll call” systemwith the aim of improving driver health management.Along with existing efforts to reduce CO2 emissions we arepromoting initiatives to ensure safety and security.IT roll call system: A system for checking on the health of drivers that utilizes videophoneand data communications. At present only business operators with an “excellent”rating are permitted to use such a system.CO2 Emissions from Transportation’07’06* 4.604.54’08 3.93CO2 emission volume (1 000t)0 1 2 3 4 5’09’103.393.43’11 3.49(FY)* Accompanying the revision of the Energy Conservation Law Akebono changed itscalculation methods for CO2 emission volume enhancing its accuracy.FY08 FY09 FY10 FY11Total traffic volume (10 000 ton kilometer) 5 814 5 144 5 718 5 291Consumed energy (kL crude oil equivalent) 1 518 1 310 1 413 1 359CO2 emission volume (t-CO2) 3 930 3 393 3 434 3 494Unit energy consumption 0.261 0.255 0.247 0.257Energy Consumed in and CO2 Emitted from Logistics ActivitiesUnit energy consumption: A value calculated by dividing the amount of energy consumedin transportation by traffic volume (ton-kilometer).
