Initiatives at Akebono Brake Astra IndonesiaTopicsPT. Akebono Brake Astra Indonesia (AAIJ) was granted“Five Stars,” the highest accreditation under the AstraFriendly Company Certificate (AFC) system operated byAstra International, a major company at the head ofIndonesia’s foremost conglomerates in the automotiveand other industries, for its unique initiatives to fulfill corporatesocial responsibility.At AAIJ, efforts are now under way to help improve thequality of life in the local community and to nurture youngpeople through the provision of continued support anddonation. In this way, AAIJ is striving to win the support ofthe community.AAIJ’s Main Initiatives? Donating educational equipment (such as traditional musicalinstruments)? Providing scholarships (to 40 elementary school students, fivejunior high school students and eight high school students in2012)? Donating food, clothing and books for people in poverty? Blood donation from associatesThe certification of AFC Five Star accreditationHosting Local Summer FestivalsAs one initiative aimed at contributing to local society,Akebono hosts summer festivals at its major domestic locations.With younger associates operating stalls and managingattractions, these festivals have been enjoyed by many peoplefrom local communities, including children as well as associatesand their families, providing them with a place forexchange and to have fun. These festivals also give thosewho sing and dance an audience, helping facilitate interactionamong these and otherpeople.Akebono will continueholding events aimedat deepening tiesbetween its associates,their families and peoplein local communities.Ai-Museum: Helping to Communicate Brake TechnologyEstablished in 2004 to mark the 75th anniversary ofAkebono’s founding, Ai-Museum is open to the general publicto learn about braking technologies and the significance ofautomobile brake components. The museum presents themechanisms and functions of brakes using life-size cars aswell as actual brake components from bullet trains and othersamples. Also, the museum’s information corner teaches visitorsabout the historyof brake development.Going forward, wewill enhance the museum’scontent and furtherset up a display ofbrakes from around theworld.Welfare Vehicle Donated to a Facility for HandicappedPeopleIn December 2012, the Akebono Brake Labor Union donated alarge-sized van to a local facility for mentally handicapped people.This donation was made as a part of an initiative led bythe Confederation of Japan Automobile Workers Unions involvingoffering vehicles to social welfare facilities once a year,with the aim of improving accessibility for those who live farfrom such facilities.Donating musical instruments to local junior high schoolGranting scholarshipsCervical cancer prevention campaignWith Local CommunitiesInteracting with CommunityAkebono greatly values the communities where it operates and ensures that each base of operationsworldwide is proactively involved and maintains close communications with the local people.
