Akebono’s Quality Management and DevelopmentCapability Commended by its Customers■ Becoming Altrom’s Supplier of the YearIn June 2012, Akebono Brake Corporation (ABC), the AkebonoGroup’s U.S.-based subsidiary, received the “Altrom Group2011 Supplier of the Year” award from the Altrom Group, amajor North American dealer handling automobile parts forimported cars. This award honors the most accomplishedvendor among Altrom’s 250 suppliers.The award-winning supplier isdetermined on the basis of Altrom’sevaluation of the supplier, whichtakes end-user satisfaction into consideration.In winning this award,ABC marked one of its most notableachievements since it began sellingaftermarket products in NorthAmerica in 2000.■ Wining Toyota Quality Alliance Gold AwardIn October 2012, the Akebono Group’s North America-basedAftermarket Sales section received Toyota U.S.A.’s “GoldenAward” for the first time. This award is second only to ToyotaU.S.A.’s Platinum Awardand was given in recognitionof Akebono’s manyyears of ceaseless effortin the manufacture andsale of high-quality brakepads for Toyota cars.■ Akebono Commended by Major Automotive Manufacturers forProduct QualityIn November 2012, Akebono was presented with a “Letter ofAppreciation for Superior Quality” by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Apresentation ceremony was held at the Nissan TechnicalCenter and Akebono, together with two other suppliers,received a letter commending its efforts. The letter pointed tothe Company’s annual track record, characterized by a minimalrejection rate, low number of defective products detectedafter sales and promptness and accuracy of response to customerinquiries with regard to product failures.In April 2013, Akebono received a “Superior Quality Award”at a general suppliers meeting of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. Toqualify for the award, candidates must do?500 million or more per year in businesswith Daihatsu Motor. The award isgiven based on the number of defectiveproducts delivered and the ratio of aftersales product failures.Akebono was also given the“Excellence in Quality Award” by Hondaof America Manufacturing., Inc. in April2013 as well as the “Best in Quality Award” from IsuzuMotors Co., (Thailand) Ltd. in May 2013.■ Granted GM’s Highest Platinum AwardIn November 2012, Akebono’s North American OriginalEquipment Supplier Team, along with the Group’s Clarksvilleand Glasgow plants, received the highest “Platinum Award”from General Motors Company (GM). To date, GM has grantedsuch awards to 508 of its 4,200 suppliers in recognition of aproduct delivery ratio of 99.5% or greater.Brake Technology Education Patrol CarAkebono has developed a specialized vehicle that introducesits brake technologies by visually displaying the mechanismof drum and disk brakes in an easy to understand way. The“Brake Technology Education Patrol Car” travels across Japanwith the aim of assisting automobile repair shops, auto dealers,parts shops and agencies in proposing better brakeproducts that ensure greater safety, thereby contributing to asafe automobile society.
