Vocational Scholarship Programs: ProvidingOngoing Support for Working StudentsSince 1964, Akebono has provided scholarships through itsVocational Scholarship Program, a program that allows students toearn wages by working at Akebono while also covering their academicfees for a period of three years. This program has supportedjunior college students earning degrees in early childhood educationor nutrition to acquire specialist qualifications in these fields. At present,Akebono Brake Fukushima Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (FukushimaManufacturing) is operating this program, and it signed up 23 studentsat the beginning of fiscal 2014. They live in the corporate dormitoryand engage in shift work at Fukushima Manufacturing whilepursuing their studies. Once they complete their respective academiccourses and acquire qualifications, they will go on to work as kindergartenteachers, nursery workers and nutritionists, although someof them may pursue careers at corporations. To date, Akebono hasnurtured more than 3,000 students through this program, includingsome second-generation scholarship recipients.Offering office and Plant ToursAkebono proactively invites external companies as well as studentsfrom localelementary and junior high schools to tour its officesand plants across Japan.In fiscal 2013, we invited more than 900 students from nineelementary schools in Saitama Prefecture to tour Ai-City headquartersin Hanyu City. In addition to a briefing on the Company, thesetours involved a visit to “Ai-Museum” (Brake Museum) and a presentationof our mobile brake technology educational center aswell as programs aimed at providing hands-on experience of manufacturingat the Monozukuri Center. Such tours help raise visitors’safety awareness while facilitating their understanding of Akebonoand its products.Additionally, in July 2013, Akebono Brake YamagataManufacturing Co., Ltd. (Yamagata Manufacturing) and anotherautomotive equipment manufacturer held a mutual plant tour thatserved to inspire participants asthey compared the two companies’manufacturing approachesand initiatives.In these ways, we will continueto share benefit from ourbusiness growth with people inlocal communities.Providing Junior High and High School Studentswith Job Experience ProgramsAkebono cooperates with junior high and high schools to provideWith Local CommunitiesContributing to Communities by Providing Secure Employment andNurturing Future GenerationsAs a community member, Akebono is nurturing not only its associates but also future generations through scholarship and internship programs.students with job experience programs at each domestic location.In fiscal 2013, Akebono Brake Iwatsuki Manufacturing Co., Ltd.(Iwatsuki Manufacturing) held two rounds of a three-day job experienceprogram for junior high school students, while FukushimaManufacturing held two rounds of a similar program for juniorhigh and high school students.Periodically, Iwatsuki Manufacturing also provides high schoolstudents with a five-day internshipprogram. Through suchprograms, Akebono is strivingto give local students moreopportunities to learn “what isit like to work,” thereby helpingthem enjoy successful jobsearching in the future.Akebono 123 Celebrates its 10th AnniversaryAkebono 123 Co., Ltd. is a special-purpose subsidiary of AkebonoBrake Industry Co., Ltd. which provides employment opportunitiesfor people with disabilities. In September 2013, Akebono 123marked the 10th anniversary of its founding, holding a commemorativeevent aimed at expressing gratitude to stakeholders. Amongthe approximately 90 attendees were the director of SaitamaPrefectural Labor Bureau and the mayor of Hanyu City.
