A year and a half has passed since Ai-Village’s opening in 2012as a training facility to nurture globally capable humanresources. In 2013, approximately 10,000 associates in totalparticipated in training sessions held at Ai-Village. The HumanResource Department spearheaded around half of these trainingsessions, with the remainder organized by various operatingdepartments. In addition, there were some instances whereAi-Village opened its accommodations to associates trapped byinclement weather. Plans for fiscal 2014 include “Ai-Campus,”a series of open seminars comprising 83 courses, including languagetraining programs and lectures aimed at imparting basicknowledge on Akebono’s manufacturing processes and products.Going forward, we will fully utilize this facility to nurturecompetitive human resources. Ai-Villages Wins Multiple Design AwardsIn October 2013, Ai-Village won the Good Design Award 2013sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion for itsoutstanding design as a place for facilitating communications.Moreover, the facility was selected as a prize-winning pieceunder the Japan Institute of Architects Top 100 ArchitectsAward 2013. Main Features of the Facility? Training rooms and presentation rooms? Accommodations comprising 56 rooms? Lounge areas aimed at enhancing communications? Green spaces to nurture visitors’ environmental awareness? Kitchen facilities for experiencing diverse cuisines? Library facilities to support self-studyAi-Village also serves as an evacuation shelter should a disasteror other emergency arise. It is equipped with emergency aidsupplies and is capable of converting its training rooms intoaccommodations for approximately 200 people.Striving to Diversify Human ResourcesAt Akebono, the human resources we recruit are increasinglydiverse as we aim to accelerate the expansion of global operations. Accepting Trainees from New Overseas LocationsPrior to the launch of Akebono Brake Mexico S.A. de C.V. (ABM),in May 2013 we held training sessions for ABM’s founding staff atAkebono Brake Sanyo Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Such sharing ofaccumulated knowledge on brakes and manufacturing skills withlocal associates helps them achieve smooth production kickoff. InternshipNot only does Akebono proactively accept interns from abroad, italso organizes exchange events where interns and associates findtheir sense of being part of an international concern nurturedthrough the exchange of ideas. In 2012, the Company began holdingsuch events under the title “Internship Forums.” In 2013, suchforums were held on two occasions and attended by a total of 25people. Looking ahead, we will provide our associates with opportunitiesto encounter diverse values by interacting with peoplefrom around the world.
