Our Basic Policy of Health ManagementAkebono recognizes that maintaining associates’ health is indispensablenot only for its ongoing business operations but also forthe society in which it operates. With this in mind, we are pursuinghealth promotion initiatives from the following viewpoints.1. Enhancing the quality of life of associatesa. Promoting physical and mental health while helpingassociates maintain favorable family relationships andgood human relationships at worksites2. Maintaining a healthy working environment that ensures along working lifea. Addressing the issue of increasing medicalexpensesb. Preventing the occurrence of health problems that mayresult in long-term absence or a decline in job performanceand productivity3. Exercising risk controla. Addressing health problems that may increase occupationaland commuting accidents or product defectsb. Infectious disease preventionWhile strengthening the protections on personal information,we are working to identify obstacles to health promotion and strivingto overcome them while raising associates’ health consciousnessand encouraging them to proactively maintain healthylifestyles. To enhance the quality of life for each associate, we arealso promoting such initiatives as a mental healthcare program,thereby developing an even more robust health managementstructure capable of maintaining our occupational hygiene practicesat high levels.Continuously Enhancing Mental Healthcare ProgramsAs for our mental healthcare initiatives, in fiscal 2013 we offered aself-examination program to those who are or have been engagedin prolonged overtime work. Moreover, as we had in the yearbefore, we participated in a liaison council hosted by the JapanAuto Parts Industries Association for those individuals responsiblefor their organization’s mental healthcare efforts, which enabled usto update our standard mental healthcare educational program.The councilentailed cross-company discussions of measures aimedat promoting mental healthcare.We incorporated a new program into our training sessions fornewly appointed managers to teach them about their roles in a“line-care” structure, in which staff are free to consult withWith Our AssociatesProtecting Associates’ Health and Safety to Secure Our Operational FoundationStriving to maintain a sound workforce through the creation of a healthy workplace,Akebono is focusing on developing a better health management structure that is more responsive to current needs.managers who give advice on how to address individual mentalhealth problems and improve the working environment. reflectingthe effectiveness of our efforts, a growing number of associatesare voluntarily consulting physicians about their mental healthupon the advice of their supervisors. In fiscal 2014, we will continueto provide the self-examination program while implementingongoing initiatives aimed at addressing issues identified throughsuch examinations and assessments of each organizational unit’scapability to manage mental health problems.Reinforcing Our Health Management StructureIn fiscal 2014, we will increase the number of in-house physiciansand other staff in charge of industrial hygiene. We will also striveto remain apprised of the status of health management at overseaslocations to ensure that all our people are receiving necessaryhealth care. Moreover, in cooperation with a health insurance association,we will utilize statistical data gleaned from the healthexamination results of association members to identify trends inhealth problems and to plan health promotion initiatives. In theseways, we will strive to prevent health problems from occurringwhile identifying and treating them at the early stages. Inthe fiscal 2013 meeting, which was held in July, attendees from aroundthe world benefited from discussions onsuch subjects as differences in safetystandards enforced in each country andthe exchange of opinions from diverseviewpoints.Global Safety MeetingHealth Management Initiatives OverseasIn North America, Akebono Brake Corporation (ABC) holds a variety ofhealth promotion events. In 2013, ABC distributed to associates helpfulinformation on how to develop healthy lifestyles while holding a walkingcampaign that extended to a period of six weeks. It also participated inthe Great American Smokeout which encouragesmokers to stop using tobacco. Assuch, ABC is striving to ensure robust healthmanagement through in-house events andother across-the-board initiatives.ABC associates taking part in the walking campaign
