In line with akebono’s Corporate Mission and akebono’s Declarationfor the 21st Century, the Company established its EnvironmentalDeclaration and Basic Environmental Policies, setting forth guidelinesfor its environmental initiatives.Our Environmental VisionAkebono recognizes that responding to the environmental problemsis an issue of the utmost importance and seeks to protect theenvironment on a global scale as part of efforts to fulfill its CSR.Based on this recognition, Akebono maintains a strong commitmentto undertaking environmental preservation activities in acomprehensive manner and with a global perspective.In line with this commitment, the Recycling Committee and theGlobalenvironment Committee were established in 1991 and1994, respectively, followed by the formulation of the Company’sEnvironmental Declaration and Basic Environmental Policies in 2001.Rallying the strength of entire Group, Akebono is striving toachieve both sustainable business operations and sustainable society.Strengthening Cooperation between the GlobalEnvironment Committee and Task ForcesBased on its Environmental Declaration and Basic EnvironmentalPolicies, Akebono has its established environmental and CSR managementsystems. Accordingly, Akebono is pursuing more ecoefficient operations, preventing air pollution and other environmentalrisks from emerging while taking into account CO2 emissionsand industrial waste recycling as well as energy and resource saving.With the aim of tackling global-scale environmental issues,such as the loss of biodiversity, the Company formed the GlobalEnvironment Committee to spearhead its initiatives, with task forcesand sectional committees working in close cooperation with it.Based on our Corporate Mission and Declaration for the 21stCentury, we will continue to create new value in the new millennium,contributing to both the Company and the environment. As aglobal corporate citizen, we will also strive to protect the environmenton a global scale and implement ongoing voluntary activitiesaimed at creating a safe, vibrant society that co-exists in harmonywith the environment.Established 20011. Under the law, business operators which handle more than a certain amount of specified chemical substances are requiredto submit reports to the competent minister annually.*5 3R: Acronym for reduce, reuse and recycling of resources, activities that contribute to a recycling society*6 Zero-emissions: Proposed by the United Nations University in 1994, a system wherein companies aim to emit no waste, engaging rather in resource recycling and the effective utilization of waste*7 Green purchasing: Affirmative selection and acquisition of products that impose less negative environmental impact; scope includes materials used in products as well as secondary materials used in thecourse of manufacturing. The manufacture of “Green Products” requires the practice of green purchasing.
