Production kickoff at Slovakianmanufacturing subsidiary isscheduled for August 2015To secure its responsiveness to the worldwide adoption of global platform (GPF) systems among car manufacturers, Akebono is striving toestablish a production and supply structure capable of delivering its products to markets worldwide while satisfying quality requirements. To this end, efforts are now under way to build highly efficient development, production and distribution networks. Moreover, we aredeveloping a supply network capable of providing the European market with brakes for high-performance (HP) commercial vehicles. Establishing a supply network oriented toward these two key fields will significantly contribute to the achievement of goals set forth in the midtermbusiness plan.In line with our determination to expand the global supply network, in May 2014 we announced plans to establish a new productionsubsidiary in Slovakia. This subsidiary will begin with the assembly of calipers from parts manufactured in other regions and friction materialsmanufactured in France, both of which are designed for cars produced using GPF systems. In time, the subsidiary will serve as an integratedproduction base capable of handling aluminum casting, machining and assembly with the aim of supplying products for HPcommercial vehicles.*The areas enclosed in blue circles are target markets.Akebono has positioned technological differentiation as one of its core strategiesin the pursuit of profitability improvement. Specifically, the Company is developingbrakes with a focus on controlling noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), therebyhelping realize greater driving comfort.Going forward, we will continue to pursue better noise and vibration control, the basic performance determiners of excellent brakes, while developingenvironment-friendly, cost-efficient and high-performance brake products.EcofriendlyNVHcontrolCostefficientHPEurope AsiaNet Sales (billions of yen) Net Sales (billions of yen)4.97.410.3’12 ’13 ’14 (FY)Outlook24.332.636.7’12 ’13 ’14 (FY)(0.8) Outlook(0.6)(0.2)(FY)Outlook’12 ’13 ’142.44.2 4.4(FY)Outlook’12 ’13 ’14Operating Loss (billions of yen) Operating Income (billions of yen)Fully enter the European market with brakesfor HP commercial vehicles while restructuringexisting plantsExpand operations in growth markets whileoptimizing sourcingStrategies?
