Re: Notification of Extension of Special Measures to Limit the Spread of COVID-19 during a State of Emergency and Notification of Golden Week Holiday Period

Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd (the "Company"), announced on April 8 that in response to a state of emergency declared for Tokyo, Osaka and five other prefectures by the Japanese government, the Company has decided to implement the following measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, including additional company holidays for employees from non-manufacturing departments. In the light of current situation, the Company has decided to extend these measures. In addition, the Company announces Golden Week Holiday Period.

Implementation Period

New period: From April 13, 2020 (Monday) to May 15, 2020 (Friday)

Previous plan: From April 13, 2020 (Monday) to May 6, 2020 (Wednesday)

Golden Week Holiday period

From May 2, 2020 (Saturday) to May 10, 2020 (Sunday)

Note: Answers to inquiries to the Akebono website will be made after May 11th.

Employees subject to the measures

Persons working for any of the following organizations: Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd., Akebono Advanced Engineering Co., Ltd., Akebono Research and Development Centre Ltd., Akebono 123 Co., Ltd., Akebono Kids Care Co., Ltd., Akebono FRESH Center

Measures

  • Company offices will be closed on April 24 (Friday) and May 1 (Friday), which will be designated additional company holidays.
  • Employees are encouraged to take annual paid leave during the period from April 27 (Monday) to April 30, 2020 (Thursday).
  • Except for the above dates: Employees will, in principle, work from home (telecommuting)

In regard to the Company's production sites in Japan, the measures above are expected to have no impact on production or delivery at the current moment.

On January 29, 2020, the Company set up regular meetings for discussing countermeasures in response to the coronavirus outbreak and since then has implemented the following preventive measures: self-health checks prior to starting a work day, prohibiting employees with a fever of 37.5C or more from coming to work, restrictions on all international business travel and non-urgent domestic business travel, bans on meetings and gatherings of large number of employees and facilitation of flexible working hours to avoid commuting during peak hours. Most employees from the Global Head Office located in Tokyo have been working from home since March 31, 2020.
