NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness)

"NVH (noise, vibration, harshness)" spoils the pleasant ride of an automobile. Suppressing NVH is a very important design criteria when developing a brake system. Akebono is developing and manufacturing brakes that contribute to realize the safety and comfort of vehicles through the development of NV suppression which minimizes brake squeal and vibrations (NV).

NVH, which deteriorates the ride comfort of vehicles, stands for Noise (squeal), Vibration, and Harshness (vibrations generated by irregularities of road-surfaces).

Ride comfort is severely spoiled by the squealing sound generated when the brakes are applied, and by the vibrations which the driver feels via the steering and/or vehicle body when braking from high speeds. It is very important in the development of brakes to suppress brake squeal and vibration, i.e. minimizing the N and V of NVH.

During the development process, we use the "Ai-Ring,” which is one of the largest proving ground among automotive parts manufacturers. Here, various brake tests, from computer simulations and evaluations on a test bench, to evaluations using an actual car, can be conducted in-house.Akebono leverages this strength to the fullest to make breakthrough discoveries on how NV is generated and realize high-precision simulations to develop NV-free brakes from the design stage. We are committed to further improving the precision of NV suppression technologies and developing brakes that are even more comfortable.
